In July 2007, Debra Pylypiw became an instructor in the Carolina Online Teacher Program. Deb has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fine Arts from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. She has a Master of Arts in Education in Art Education and a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from East Carolina University along with Certificates in Tele-Learning, Virtual Reality in Education, and Computers in Education. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent/Young Adulthood Art.

Deb teaches art full-time at White Oak High School in Jacksonville, NC and also teaches AP Art History for the North Carolina Virtual Public School. She has taught Art Appreciation and Art History online for East Carolina University, Pamlico Community College, Coastal Carolina Community College, Fayetteville Tech Community College, Craven Community College, and Surry Community College. She is also a former President of the NC Art Educators Association and has been appointed to the NC Joint Senate Select Committee on Arts Education. She serves on the review panel of Art Education, the Journal of the National Art Education Association, and of VR in the Schools.

Deb loves to travel and has led numerous student trips to New York City and to western Europe. Last summer, she was the recipient of a fellowship from the Turkish Cultural Foundation and the International Affairs Council to participate in a teacher study tour of Turkey. She lives in coastal North Carolina with her husband, two dachshunds, and three cats. She loves spending time with her grown children and will soon welcome her first grandchild!
