Sara Johnson holds a Masters of Education, Reading/Learning Disabilities from UNC-CH, Secondary English teaching certificate from Elon College, and a B.A., Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill. She started teaching for LEARN NC in 2006.

Sara is a tenured Reading Specialist for the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools. She earned her National Board Certification in Reading/Language Arts in 2004. In her work she has been involved in:

  • Writing a grant to fund a student book group
  • Facilitating a faculty book group focusing on adolescent literature
  • Teaching summer enrichment reading and writing classes
  • Teaching online for her district
  • Teacher of the year 2005-2006
  • Literacy Collaborative training

Outside of work Ms. Johnson freelances for local newspapers on family and education matters. Published articles include:

In the private sector Sara volunteers for Carnivore Preservation Trust as a tour guide and enjoys spending time with her family.
