This Weekly Science Update, found on the Science NetLinks website, focuses on plant defense mechanisms. With the help of weed scientist Joe Neal of North Carolina State University, students gain a greater understanding of poison ivy's chemical defenses, and of the many reasons for and ways in which other plants protect themselves from being eaten.

Using a 90-second net-radio format, Weekly Science Updates are mini-lessons designed to introduce and investigate various scientific concepts.
