This site explores the North American prairie ecosystem. Once spreading 1.5 million square kilometers, less than 2% of native prairie remains today. In October 1999, Bell LIVE! traveled to the prairie and explored the animals and plants of this fascinating ecosystem.

The Build-a-Prairie game allows students to restore a tall grass prairie and a short grass prairie. Choose the types of grasses, birds, amphibians and reptiles, and animals that are found in each ecosystem.

Check out the Field Guide to the Prairie. Images and descriptions of each type of grasses, birds, herp, mammal and insect are detailed here. Also included are a glossary of terms and Dakota Prairie Terms and Pronunciations.

Experience the prairie through movies and VR panoramas. Included are a seasonal look at the prairies, Prairie Chickens booming, prairie activities, and locating a prairie near you.
