- An interactive feature that allows students to track SARS from its beginnings with the CDC.
Educator's guide
BAM!, short for Body And Mind, covers health-related issues and common concerns in a format that will engage and inform students. Interactive features, animation, and a focus on developmentally-appropriate topics and language make BAM! the best kid's health and wellness site for grades 4 through 8.
Healthy lifestyle choices are presented using a personalized approach so that suggestions are not just about what is "good for you" but what is actually "good for YOU" based upon your self-generated profile. For example, everyone knows that physical activity is important to fitness and good health. Rather than generally touting the benefits of all forms of exercise, the activity calendar maker generates a printable schedule based upon the student's preferences. Students may learn more about the recommended activities specific tips about getting started or competing in these areas. Student-designed fitness plans fit the preferences and schedules of the student best; students are more likely to participate because they are invested in the process.
Health is more than regularly scheduled workouts. BAM! includes sections on Your Safety, and a mental health area called Your Life to help students recognize the physical effects of stress.
Don't miss the Teacher's Corner for standards-aligned activities and ideas for using this site with your students. BAM! is published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
