The History of the Cherokee website is maintained by Ken Martin, a tribal member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. This site tells the history of the Cherokee people, incorporating both legend and fact, through chapters that cover the times before the Europeans settled the United States, first contacts with the settlers, the Trail of Tears, and the Civil War. This resource also contains maps of the location of the Cherokee in various stages beginning before the settlement of Europeans as well as information on tracing Cherokee genealogy. There are, additionally, lists of books on Cherokee history, Cherokee newspapers, and more.
