Lesson plans and extensive information about African Countries make Exploring Africa a good first stop for teachers who will be teaching and learning about Africa. As African is often misrepresented in texts and educational materials, this site provides "... content materials and learning activities that facilitate a comprehensive study of the African continent and its societies and peoples in their tremendous diversity." Whether you are preparing to teach Grade 7 social studies, world history or world literature, this site is an excellent resource for teaching ideas.

Exploring Africa is published by the African Studies Center at Michigan State University in collaboration with the Office of International Studies and Programs, the M.S.U. College of Education., and MATRIX: Humanities and Social Sciences On-Line. Though almost all of the content is informative and reliable, areas of the site have out of date navigation which may make the site difficult to use. In addition, current events link to materials a few years out of date though the extent and depth of the resources offered is enough to keep this a valuable site. Be sure to preview all materials before using them with students.
