From the State Library of North Carolina's North Carolina Encyclopedia comes the entry Historical Highlights of North Carolina. This feature contains the following a brief history of the state beginning with the early history and a description of many of the native tribes of North Carolina including the Cherokee, Catawba, and the Coastal Algonquian. The history continues to the Colonial Period, the Halifax Resolves, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and concludes with significant events in the twentieth century.
