You be the Historian
You can act as a historian in an activity on You Be the Historian. Looking at clues, you can make guesses about objects, read about objects, and come to conclusions about a family in the 1700s. There are questions to answer as you explore the artifacts and documents and learn about the everyday lives of people in the past by looking at what they left behind. The belongings of a family who lived in New Castle, Delaware, are available for you to see. Also, there are questions you can answer about your own life so that you can think about what people in the future, like 2050, could learn about your daily life and your family from the items in your home today.
Teachers are able to print the questions about the family from the 1700s and the questions for students about the clues in their own homes. Students can write about their own lives and what the objects in their homes reveal about them. Primary source and secondary source materials and the historical process can be explored with this site.
