U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Kids Corner
Most people think that endangered species are those that are exotic and live in far off places. But, with almost 1300 species of plants, birds, fish, mammals, and other species on the endangered species list, some may migrate through or be in your area.
Kids Corner highlights a number of programs from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It also has sections of resources for students of how they can help in their neighborhoods and a section of teaching materials for the classroom.
"Endangered Means There is Still Time" is a program that &Quot;demonstrates how loss of habitat and ecosystems can lead to a decline in biodiversity, and how the Endangered Species Act helps prevent extinction." Students can look at a slide show and take a quiz on what they learned. There is also a corresponding worksheet for them to fill out.
"Wild Things Electronic Field Trip" is a live and interactive distance learning adventure that feature satellite broadcasts and web-based content. Teachers and students can explore and learn about National Wildlife Refuges and the animals that live there.
"Species in the Spotlight" take students to "learn more pages" with links to "the most recent fact sheets, life history, and regulatory information for these species."
The "Junior Duck Stamp Program" is for k-12 students which teaches about waterfowl conservation and their wetland habitat. It "incorporates scientific and wildlife management principles into a visual arts curriculum."
