NASA's Solar System Exploration
Solar System Exploration is one of four space science themes for the Office of Space Science at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This web site is your launching pad to find out more about the program and the people in them.
Interactive features allow viewers to explore the solar system at their own pace. Subjects include: Timeline - The Robotic Exploration of Space, NASA Solar System Launches & Events Calendar, The Planetary Explorer, A Roadtrip to Mars!, and Celestial Selection, where viewers can vote for their favorite images.
View videos on the heliosphere, oil fires in Iraq, coronal mass ejection, Jupiter icy moons orbiter, and a number of others.
The Kid's section has an interactive space activity, an art gallery, paper models instructions, and more.
For teachers, the Cassini K-4 Literacy Program, "Reading, Writing, and Rings", has been developed to engage elementary students in reading and writing to strengthen these basic academic skills through scientific content. By utilizing the planet Saturn and the Cassini-Huygens mission as a model in both primary reading and writing, students in these grade levels can explore science material while at the same time learning these basic academic skills. Also in the teachers section, educators can find teacher-approved activities related to current NASA missions.
