The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) website is based at North Carolina's two land grant institutions, NC State University and North Carolina A&T State University, in all 100 counties, and on the Cherokee Reservation. The vast amount of information and research that can be found on this site covers:

  • Agriculture and Food provides farmers and agribusinesses with the research-based knowledge they need to continue producing a stable, safe and affordable food supply in economically and environmentally sustainable ways. Topics include animal agriculture, commercial horticulture, farm health and safety, field crops, food safety and processing, and pest control.
  • Community contains information for training adult and youth volunteers to become community leaders, providing educational programs to stimulate community economic development, working in partnership with other agencies to help citizens prepare for and recovery from disasters ? and more. Information can be accessed about NC Cooperative Extension Disaster Information Center, NCSU Water Quality Group, CYFERnet Community Resources, NC Rural Economic Development Center, and stormwater and erosion control.
  • Environment helps the public understand complex issues related to environmental quality and to meet changing environmental regulations, North Carolina Cooperative Extension offers a range of educational programs covering water quality, waste management, wildlife management, collaborative problem-solving and more.

  • Health and Nutrition covers a broad spectrum, from pesticide safety to indoor air quality, from childhood nutrition and physical activity to heart-healthy eating and food safety.
  • Home and Family has answers about controlling household insects, protecting well-water, managing a family budget, helping families improve their eating habits, and dealing with the special concerns related to early childhood, parenting, or aging.
  • Lawn and Garden helps gardeners learn more about new plants, native plants and environmental stewardship.
  • Youth and 4-H contains information about the 4-H programs and childhood development.
