North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission - Wildlife Species and Habitat Information
This site has comprehensive information on the wildlife species of North Carolina. See the Species Fact Sheets for wildlife profiles with two- to three-page fact sheets that profile an animal's history, status, habitat and behavior. Each profile includes an illustration and a range map.
In the species section of the site will find current distribution maps developed by the Division of Wildlife Management for white-tailed deer, wild turkey and black bear. Also there are special sections with in-depth information on the crayfish, freshwater mussels and endangered fish, research on the Tundra Swan Atlantic flyway, and the satellite tracking of Northern Pintail Ducks. Also included is the list of North Carolina protected wildlife species.
Educators can attend workshops for professional development and take students on field trips to any of the three Wildlife Education Centers in the state. These are located at Pisgah Forest in the mountains, Centennial Campus of N.C. State University in Raleigh, and the Outer Banks Center in Coralla.
