Environmental factors along with age and individual susceptibility play a role in human health. In an effort to expose environmental health concepts to students, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has created this informative website for teachers, students, and scientists.

Students will find links to websites that can help them with homework in the environmental health area. Interactive websites with online activities help students understand how the environment affects their health. The site includes interviews with scientists and researchers in the field and opportunities for summer work.

Educators will find a variety of curricular materials relating to environmental health. These include videos, web-based activities, presentations, lesson plans, fact sheets, brochures, pamphlets, and flyers. NIEHS provides professional development and research opportunities throughout the country.

Scientists are often asked to visit classrooms to talk to students. This site has “simple strategies and activities that they can use to effectively communicate complex ideas on toxicology to students.” They will also find resource materials which will tie into their presentation in the form of factsheets, flyers, pamphlets, news, and videos. NIEHS also has career development and outreach opportunities for scientists. Here they can find grants, training opportunities, and jobs.
