Public Agenda
Public Agenda offers unbiased explorations and up-to-date information presenting all sides of public opinion and policy issues ranging from education to foreign policy to immigration to religion and civility in American life.
The mission of Public Agenda is to help American leaders better understand the public's point of view and to help citizens know more about critical policy issues so they can make thoughtful, informed decisions. Often the media and political agendas get in the way of reporting the issues fairly. Given accurate information and meaningful choices, Public Agenda maintains that Americans can and do make thoughtful decisions. By providing facts and figures, different perspectives and frequently-updated syntheses of public attitudes, this site has developed a following among teachers, politicians, journalists, and informed citizens, too.
Students in Civics and Law and Justice classes will find the Issues pages particularly helpful. Each offers an overview of the issue, a Fact File of related statistics, Discussion Guides representing many perspectives, Quick Takes which features facts or findings indicating a new or under-reported trend, Red Flags, current legislation related to the issue, and the people's chief concerns as indicated in the research. Issues range from the often-researched like abortion, right to die and the environment to current hot buttons like gay rights and immigration.
