Reader's theater is a convenient and effective means to present literary works in dramatic form in the classroom. It is a key tool for building fluency and engaging students of all abilities in class reading assignments. Reader's theater is effective not only for language arts but for social studies as well. Performing multicultural literature or literature centered around an issue in history is effective in promoting understanding of other cultures and empathetic responses to historical events.

On this website, children's author Aaron Shepard offers resources for reader's theater including free ready-to-reproduce scripts. The Online Guide includes tips for scripting, staging and reading. Encourage students to write their own Reader's Theater script. RT Scripting Sheets are provided for this purpose.
