American Slave Narratives: An Online Anthology, from the University of Virginia is a collection of interviews with former slaves who discuss their lives before and after freedom. The narratives were transcribed verbatim from the interview transcripts collected by writers of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the late 1930's. The site features photos and RealAudio sound clips from one of the original interviews. Selected readings on American slavery and slave narratives as well as links to other resources are also provided.
