Known s "Frew's Folly,", this plantation home is one of the finest examples of Federal period architecture in North Carolina. It was built in 1815 by Archibald Frew, a merchant, postmaster and tax collector. In the 1830s D. T. Caldwell and his family occupied the home. Dr. Caldwell had a medical practice as well as running the plantation. In 1985 the Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. purchased the house and eight acres and restored the home.
During a visit to Rosedale, students will be introduced to life in a plantation community, herbs and medicines, ante-bellum education and historic research. Students will also expand their knowledge of both local and North Carolina history. Pre-visit activities are provided for teachers to introduce the importance of local history to their students.
