The North Carolina Writers' Network: Literary Hall of Fame
Southern Pines, NC (http://www.ncwriters.org/lhof.htm)
“The North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame currently honors thirty-six Tar Heel authors, including six living writers. The North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame celebrates and promotes the State's rich literary heritage by commemorating its leading authors and encouraging the continued flourishing of great literature. It is more than a museum housing photographs and archives. Working closely with libraries and schools, the Hall of Fame honors North Carolina writers with on-going programs, services, and opportunities for children and adults.
Nearly 100 middle and high school social studies and English teachers from across North Carolina have participated in two state-supported workshops at the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities in Southern Pines. These popular weekend retreats featured 10 hours of instruction on the lives and works of N.C. Literary Hall of Fame authors as a focal point for teaching creative writing and local/state history.” The Center is hoping to do more of these workshops in the future when funds become available.
