- Interpreting Diaries of the American South Students will read diaries of individuals who lived in the American South from 1865-1917. After reading these diaries the students will use a visual means of displaying their interpretation. Visual presentations will be one of the following: shadow box, poster, PowerPoint using drawings done by the student, brochure, or presenting an item that would have been used during the time that their diary was written.
- Folklife Students will learn North Carolina folklore, traditions, war activities, local legends, superstitions, food preparation traditions, art, songs and dances which are unique to the area.
- North Carolina living through photos, then and now Students will examine historical photographs of North Carolinians at work or in social settings. They will develop and share skills of “reading” photographs. Then they will use these skills to identify “historical clues” in a photo, and draw their own version of the same person or people in North Carolina today.

Rockingham County Historical Society and Rockingham Community College have worked together to develop the Rockingham County Historical Village. Currently there are four restored buildings on property that is adjoining the college. A tobacco factory, a barn, a one-room school house and a corn crib are available for touring during special events held at the college every year. School groups can visit the Historic Village by appointment. Contact the Archival Clerk at (336) 342-4261, ext. 2291 for more information.
