Freeman-Marks House and Isaiah W. Snuggs House
Albemarle, NC (http://hpc.co.stanly.nc.us/HistoricHouses/index.htm)
The Stanly County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) provides area heritage resources and is located in downtown Albemarle. The Commission has restored two important historic structures, the Snuggs House and the antebellum Freeman-Marks House. The I.W. Snuggs House was built as a log cabin in 1852 and is the third oldest home in the county seat. It was the original home of the Stanly County Museum and has rotating exhibits downstairs and restored rooms with period furnishings upstairs. The Freeman-Marks House is the oldest publicly owned building in Stanly County. Inside the home, a trundle bed, spinning wheel, and antique furnishings recreate the life of an up-and-coming family in nineteenth-century Stanly County. Both homes are open for tours.
