Field trip opportunities
- Allison- Deaver House Museum (Brevard)
- The N.C. Division of Archives and History has named this the oldest frame house
in the mountains of North Carolina. It has never been altered and is an
excellent representation of the construction of the early 1800s.
- Gorges State Park (Sapphire)
- A new state park, Gorges State Park is in the interim stages of development.
Although the facilities are limited, Park Rangers offer programs by request.
- Pisgah National Forest and the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education (Brevard)
- Both indoor and outdoor exhibits that focus on Mountain region wildlife can be
found at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. The Center also offers
educational programs for groups.
- The Cradle of Forestry in America - The Birthplace of Forest Conservation in America (Brevard)
- The rich history of the Biltmore Forest School combined with the diverse Pisgah
National Forest offers students a unique educational experience at the
Cradle of Forestry.

Farmville's choiceIn this lesson, students will learn about rural life in North Carolina at the turn of the century. Home demonstration and 4H clubs implemented many programs to help people learn better farming techniques, ways of preserving food, and taking care of the home. Several North Carolina leaders went to great lengths to ensure the success of these programs.
