A lesson plan for Grades 7–8 Mathematics
In this unit, students will have an opportunity to fully explore the patterns that result from the Paper Pool game. Illuminations provides an introduction to Paper Pool, an activity sheet, and instructions for completing the lesson.
Students will:
- Learn the rules of Paper Pool.
- Play several games of Paper Pool.
- Record data from several games of Paper Pool.
NCTM Standards and Expectations:
- Represent, analyze, and generalize a variety of patterns with tables, graphs, words, and, when possible, symbolic rules.
- Model and solve contextualized problems using various representations, such as graphs, tables, and equations.
- Select, create, and use appropriate graphical representations of data, including histograms, box plots, and scatterplots.
