Addend Pairs to 12
http://illuminations.nctm.org/LessonDetail.aspx?ID=L100
A lesson plan for Grades K–2 Mathematics
In this lesson, one of a six-part unit from Illuminations titled “Let's Learn Those Facts,” students explore pairs of numbers that add to 12 or less by playing a game. They then add to their personal addition chart and prepare a new chart that allows access to the facts they do not know. Students are encouraged to practice the facts that they do know.

- Use efficient strategies to count the number of objects in a set.
- Read and write numbers.
- Compare and order sets and numbers.
- Build understanding of place value (ones, tens).
- Estimate quantities fewer than or equal to 100.
- Recognize equivalence in sets and numbers 1-99.
- Objective 1.04: Create, model, and solve problems that use addition, subtraction, and fair shares (between two or three).
- Objective 1.01: Develop number sense for whole numbers through 99.
