Barlovento, Venezuela
Venezuela is divided into 23 states. The Barlovento region — the site of the cacao plantation in this slideshow — is located in the state of Miranda, in central northern Venezuela, near the Caribbean coast. Barlovento is known for its cacao production, its strong Afro-Venezuelan population, and its musical traditions.
