Figure 13 shows the pottery workshop located near the grinder — but not too near, or everything would get dusty! On the left you can see the wheels at which the potters will work balls of clay into objects like the pitchers on the tables on the right. Note that this is a year-round operation with both a wood stove and an electrical heater to make the space habitable during winter. Pot making in the Piedmont was often a supplemental source of income for farmers, and even though many potteries now operate year-round, there remains heavy activity during the winter months.
