North Carolina has two United States senators, each of whom serves a six-year term. The terms of the two senators overlap, so in a typical election year only one (or neither) of the seats is up for election. In 2008, North Carolinians will elect a Senator to occupy the seat currently held by Elizabeth Dole (R). Dole has served one term, and is running for re-election.

Candidates

Elizabeth Dole (R) — current U.S. Senator
Kay Hagan (D) — North Carolina State Senator
Christopher Cole (L) — Retail manager
