What is a learning object?
A learning object is self-contained digital content with an apparent instructional objective.
Additional definitions
- self-contained
- A learning object must include the information to be learned. Primary content to be learned should be internal to the learning object; that is, the instructional value of a learning object must not depend on external content. However, reference to quality material external tot he learning object should not be discouraged.
- apparent instructional objective
- The intended learning outcomes should be clear to the learner and/or instructor. The presence of an apparent instructional objective does not preclude the use of a learning object in other instructional contexts.
Parts of a learning object
A learning object may include activities, practice, and/or assessment that address the instructional objectives.
