LearnPress provides several means of crediting & attributing a page or media record, which may be used individually or in combination.

Contributors/creators

Page contributors, media contributors, and media creators refer to person records in LearnPress. If no person record exists for the contributor/creator, a person record must be created. This means of attributing authorship should be used when the following conditions apply:

If a page has multiple contributors and one contributor has a person record, a person record should be created for the other(s) as well, so that all contributors may be listed in this manner.

Page contributors

Contribution type

Page contributors are assigned roles based on the type of contribution made. A contributor to a page may be any of the following:

It is assumed that a single person will make only one of these types of contributions to a single page, but if multiple contributions are made, create multiple page contributors as if the contributions were made by different people.

Holds copyright?

If the contributor holds a copyright in the work, check yes. This information may be used to calculate edition copyrights.

Priority

A numerical value (1–9) used to order multiple authors, with 1 being highest priority. For editions with content by various authors, this information will be used to calculate the edition credit if the template so specifies.

Media contributors

Media contributor records are identical to page contributor records except for the types of contributions made. At present this method of assigning credit is available only for video records, but it will eventually replace the media creator on image, audio, and document records.

Contribution type

Media contributors may make the following contributions:

This list is provisional and will be updated as necessary.

Media creator

Typically, the single creator of an image. Select from the menu on the media record.

Providers

If a page or media was created by an organization, that organization is considered its provider. To assign a page or media provider, an organization record must exist for the providing organization; use the same criteria as for creating person records, above. Typically the providing organization will be one with which LEARN NC has a partnership, and so it will be worthwhile creating an organization record.

Page providers

Page providers have priority and may or may not hold copyright; see page contributors, above. A page may have multiple providers, though this seems unlikely.

Media providers

At present, the provider of image, audio, or video is a single organization selected from a menu. The full functionality of page providers may be added for media at a later date.

Credit text

If information about an individual creator/provider is unknown or if it is inappropriate to create a person or organization record for the creator/provider, a text credit may be used. This text must fit into a single paragraph. It may include links to creator/provider web page(s) as necessary or desired. Credit text should typically be written as the complete credit for a page or media.

As a rule, credit text should be considered a replacement for or supplement to contributor, creator, or provider information and should not credit a respository (see below). There may be cases where credit text will necessarily replace repository information; in these cases, no separate repository information should be included (to avoid duplicate display).

For republished pages

Credit text for pages republished from another source will typically be a full bibliographic citation for the original publication.

Credit URI

Media (typically images) taken from other websites where they are made available under a public license may be credited simply by listing the URI of the page from which they were taken. On the media record and in captions, the text “image credit” (or “audio credit,” etc.) will link to the URI provided.

Repository

If the page or media is supplied by a library, archive, or other provider not responsible for its creation, that organization should be listed as its repository.

Repository name

The repository name is a free text field and is not selected from organization records. (Maybe it should be?)

Repository URI

If possible, provide the URI of the catalog record for the original resource. If this is not possible, provide the URI of the collection from which the resource came, or if this is not available, the URI of the repository itself.

Call number

Provide the call number for the original of a republished work only if
