The Web Link Validator program is scheduled to run every Sunday night. The URI for the report is http://alpha.learnnc.org/badlinks.html Open a browser for the report.

Open a new browser window and open http://www.learnnc.org/lp/getlplinks.php Next, open a search box (control f). Highlight a bad link from the report and copy and paste it into the search box. (If the search doesn’t turn up anything, use a part of the URI and search again.) After finding the link, look at the page number that is next to the link. Use that number to find the page where the bad link has been found.

Open a third browser window and open http://www.learnnc.org/lp/admin/ (Until the full migration to Learn Press is finished, use http://www.learnnc.org/rattler/staff/ for Best of the Web links.) Click on the dashboard tab and then click on options. In the drop-down menu, click on LEARN NC General and then click the button “set default project.” Next click the pages tab. On this page click “Show All”. In the navigation tool bar place http://www.learnnc.org/lp/admin/page.php?action=edit&id= in the address box. This is the URI you will use to find the page with the broken link. By adding the page number at the end of the address, you can pull up that page. For instance if the link is found on page 676, the address would be http://www.learnnc.org/lp/admin/page.php?action=edit&id=676

After finding the page, look at the published view of the page. It makes it easier to see the link on the page and to find the title of the link. There are a number of ways to find the new URI:

If a new URI cannot be found, and the link is not critical to the lesson plan or best practices article, it may be removed or a replacement webpage may be used. If it is important to the work, talk to the editor. If the broken link is for a Best of the Web site, the site should be deleted. If the broken URI is in a LEARN NC created page, talk to the editor.
