From Chip’s journal:
The Top! It is 4:45 and we are at the top of the world. One thing that came to mind was a question you folks debated, “With today’s technology and the number of people going to the summit, is it really worth it?” YES, YES, YES! The view from up there makes you forget all the hardships and makes it all worth it. We got here just before the sunrise. To the left a full moon was presiding over a sea of clouds way below your feet with cherished mountain peaks poking through. In the distance the lightning of a storm was coloring the picture, but it seemed surreal as if you were watching it from high heavens and not from the Earth. To the right the sun was rising, shining the cornices of the summit ridge. It was magnificent and those few moments made it all worth it!
