Chapter 1. The letters
A selection of the fourteen letters included in the original “Report on Tobacco Bag Stringing Operations in North Carolina and Virginia” contains correspondence from tobacco bag stringing agents in North Carolina to Mr. Sherlock Bronson. The letters emphasize that for many workers, stringing is the only work option and only source of income. There are also letters from Sherlock Bronson appealing to Representative Graham Barden to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as the proposed amendment to that bill.
