LEARN NC was a program of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education from 1997 – 2013. It provided lesson plans, professional development, and innovative web resources to support teachers, build community, and improve K-12 education in North Carolina. Learn NC is no longer supported by the School of Education – this is a historical archive of their website.

North Carolina History: A Sampler

What’s a “digital textbook”? How can students learn (and teachers teach) history entirely with web resources? Come on in and find out!

These resources sampled from North Carolina Digital History, our digital textbook for grades 8 and up covering the history of North Carolina and the United States include:

  • background readings with integrated media
  • all kinds of primary sources — letters and diaries, newspapers and newsreels, oral histories, poems, paintings, and even recipes!
  • activities to build historical inquiry and map skills
  • audio, video, and photographic slideshows

Remember, this is just a sample of the more than 800 pages available! Look around, and then check out the full version.
