This series of articles was developed out of a week-long workshop LEARN NC sponsored at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching in 2001, at which Grayson Wheatley, professor emeritus at Florida State University, demonstrated a constructivist approach to teaching middle-school mathematics. The workshop focused on eighth-grade math, but the ideas in it could be applied to math instruction at any level.
