1.4 Using the Women's “Libbers” photograph
Introductory script
This is a photograph of Helen Gurley Brown. She was born in 1922, so this photograph is taken in 1964, a few years after the publication of her bestselling book, Sex and the Single Girl. In 1966, she became editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, a woman’s magazine. She contributed her philosophy to the failing magazine, and created the image of the “Cosmo Girl,” who represents a woman who has everything from love to money. Her work played a part in what is known as the sexual revolution.
