The farm house shown here, located by a canal at Dong Ha, has a thatch and corrugated metal roof. Corrugated metal roofs are popular among some farmers in Southeast Asia because they are long lasting and fire resistant. They are, however, hotter, noisier, and much more expensive than thatch roofs, which generally cost nothing besides family labor.
To the left of the main house is a thatched outbuilding, probably either a rice granery or a detached kitchen. Useful garden plants, including banana palms are planted in the yard around the house. Forested mountains cut by a high road and electric lines are visible in the background above the farm house.
