People who live in the Otavalo Valley come to the open-air market both to sell goods and to shop. While many tourists travel to the Otavalo market primarily to buy unique hand-woven textiles, the market also serves as a center of commerce for the local people, who come to buy meat, produce, livestock, and clothes.
