Fractals is an online unit for elementary and middle school students from Cynthia Lanius at Rice University. This unit includes a definition of fractals and explores the making of three different fractals: the Sierpinski fractal, the Jurassic Park fractal, and the Kock Snowflake. Each of these three investigation incorporates a Java demonstration and related issues such as math questions, infinite perimeter, and finite area. Students can also learn about fractal properties: self-similarity, fractal dimension, and formation by iteration. There are teacher’s notes for teaching about fractals in the classroom.
