Scholastic’s The First Thanksgiving takes kids on a trip through the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday beginning with a pictorial time line of 1620?1621. Students will explore the voyage on the Mayflower, the relationship between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims, and the events that led up to the harvest feast celebrated by both groups. The project also gives students an intimate perspective of the period through interviews with Pilgrim interpreters playing the roles of actual Pilgrims, and a modern-day Wampanoag descendant.The Picture Timeline tells the story of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag begins before the Thanksgiving feast and students will relive the Pilgrims’ first year in America, and learn how the Wampanoag helped them survive in the New World.Voyage on the Mayflower allows students not only to explore the Mayflower’s nooks and crannies but also to meet the passengers and crew.Plimouth 1621 lets kids experience what life was like as a Plimouth pilgrim and daily life in a Plimouth village as well as life as a Wapanoag.This resource also includes a Thanksgiving CyberChallenge and a teacher guide.
