Earth Observing System
The Earth Observing System (EOS) is a coordinated series of polar-orbiting and low inclination satellites for long-term global observations of the land surface, biosphere, solid Earth, atmosphere, and oceans. EOS is a major component of the Earth Science Division of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. EOS enables an improved understanding of the Earth as an integrated system. The EOS Project Science Office (EOSPSO) is committed to bringing program information and resources to program scientists and the general public. This website offers a variety of articles related to Earth’s climate and weather as well as satellite images that feature different meteorological phenomena.A Kid’s Page includes interactive, animated features such as “NASA SPACE PLACE” which offers games, activities and interactive graphics that teach students about science. “StarChild” includes classroom activities about the solar system. “NASA Quest” provides NASA Quest Challenges that are free, Web-based, interactive explorations designed to engage students in authentic scientific and engineering processes. “Astro Venture” provides students training in the fields of astronomy, geology and biology to enable them to design a planet.
Educators will find a resource page of related material on the Web, a satellite tracking utility, and a spacecraft overpass predictor.
