Earthguide
Earthguide, a program of the California Space Institute at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, brings science and mathematics subjects together in real-life, relevant Earth Science and Environmental topics. Unfamiliar with the vocabulary of earth science? Consult the Science Content Glossary for definitions.
What sustains life in the ocean? Students can explore Diatoms, the organisms that play the role of grass in the ocean ecosystem through resources that range from simple definitions to the views from space. You can travel through this area in a linear path or skip around using the topical navigation in the left column. A quiz with explanations for correct and incorrect answers completes the experience.
Earthguide Diagrams (also referred to as “shorts”) are animations, images, games and multimedia presentations in many areas of Earth Science. Play the Photosynthesis game or view the animated explanation of the Greenhouse Effect. This collection is growing, and many of the animations require the Macromedia Flash plug-in.
