Don't Buy It
Don’t Buy It is a media literacy website from PBS for young people that encourages users to think critically about media and become smart consumers. Activities on the site are designed to provide users with some of the skills and knowledge needed to question, analyze, interpret and evaluate media messages. This site challenges kids to question advertising, evaluate media and become smart consumers. Using humor, games and advertising parodies, Don’t Buy It “sells” media literacy to youth ages 9-11. Kids can craft ads and place them in sneaky places, design cereal boxes, take quizzes that reveal startling snack and TV truths, and learn about pesky Web advertising. This site also has points of entry for parents as well as teachers with activities and discussion points that can be enacted at home and in the classroom.
