Eyewitness -American Originals from the National Archives
http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/eyewitness/
If you have ever asked yourself what it must have been like to have witnessed past historic events, this website can give you some answers. The National Archives and Records Administration has collected eyewitness accounts of historic events in the United States and other countries. Primary sources include documents, paintings, and photographs from both famous and not-so-famous individuals. Read Thomas Jefferson’s account of the events of July 1789 in Paris, France, or the horrors Pfc. Harold Porter saw at Dachau Concentration Camp at the end of World War II. President Jimmy Carter’s notes of his visit with Pope John Paul II are available, as are Presidents Truman’s entry into his diary after meeting with Joseph Stalin. These are but a few of the eyewitness accounts available on the site and more will be added in the future.
