Children of World War 2 is an educational site for kids from the BBC.This site from the BBC shows what it was like in England for children during World War II. The site has three interactive pieces and an engaging research room. The Rationing Challenge is an interactive activity where your child can go on a shopping journey to discover how rationing worked, which foods were rationed and which were unavailable during the Second World War. Through attempting to buy the items for an evening meal they will find out by default the realities of shopping for food during the Second World War.In the second interactive piece, A Wartime Home, take a virtual tour of a model house, an exact copy of a real family’s wartime house. Find out about objects in each room just by moving the mouse around the screen and clicking on the ‘hot links’.The Evacuees’ Letters allows children to read correspondence of wartime evacuees and select the ‘hot links’. These reveal a pop-up window with more information about the reality behind the words. All the letters are available on-screen in the original manuscript plus a transcript. In the Research Room, read letters and documents, see photos and posters from the era, and listen air raid alerts and all clears.Printable worksheets enable you to extend activities in the classroom or at home.
