Planning for your future seems huge. So many difficult questions… What do you want to do for a living? Which colleges have the programs that are right for you? What classes do you need in high school to prepare for getting in to that college? And worse, how will you pay for it all?Using the College Foundation of North Carolina website will help you to manage your future. This essential website has the tools and information students need for career planning, choosing a college, applying to college, and paying for college, and it’s all in one place.Students, parents, and educators can have their own account on the site. Though you do not have to register to use many of the resources on the site, there are many organizational benefits of establishing your own account. Creating a free account is easy to do, and it allows you both to customize the site (you choose the resources you see) and to store of your preferences and results of your exploration of colleges and careers. User accounts even provide a web-based email program and individual email addresses with an address book, so students can correspond with college officials. Create a user account by selecting the “Log in to My CFNC” button at the top left of the homepage, then selecting the “New User” button on the login page.
Students can create and save a career portfolio by indicating their interests and plans for the future. By taking a Career key, students can think about what sorts of careers they are suited for based upon ability and interest. Students are provided with a place to record their ideas for career exploration activities and to create an action plan. This portfolio is a work in progress and can be updated and edited at any time.Like the career portfolio, the student portfolio is a place to build a private, personal profile of academic achievements, activities, and volunteer work. When the time comes to apply to colleges, the information needed will be already gathered in one place. Transcripts and testing records can also be stored online.One hundred North Carolina colleges have provided campus tours including images, video and all the data a student will need to select a college and determine their eligibility. Select the College Fair tab to compare colleges statewide or just the colleges you have selected. Students can apply online and even Ask an Expert any questions about the college application process.CFNC is the place to begin finding a way to pay for college. Students may begin and track their savings for college using the tax-free college investment program. If financial aid or loans are necessary, links to qualification information and applications are provided. Applications and information about merit scholarships, including academic, ability and talent, are also available. Tools and calculators, forms and more forms; if it all gets to be too much, you can Ask an Expert and receive free administrative help.In addition to the many important resources for middle and high school students, the CFNC site includes special sections designed to address issues particular to the adult learner who may be returning to school or perhaps attending college for the first time. Financial aid administrators and school counselors also have their own resource sections. If you prefer, you can access CFNC en Spanish.
