Classical Net

Classical Net is a website created, designed, and maintained by Dave Lampson, for whom classical music is a passion. In this website, he hopes to introduce people to this genre of music and steer them toward recommended recordings. This website is primarily divided into the five sections.
- Basic Repertoire List includes information on how to find and explore music, in effect providing instructions on how to use the basic repertoire as a “road map” to identify music that might be of interest. It is organized by musical “period” which roughly correspond to overall historical stylistic trends in music. These periods are defined, and composers are listed in each. For each of these “important” composers, their most significant works are listed. Further down the hierarchy, each composer has an individual page, optimally including a short biography, and expanding on the list of works by providing specific recommendations for recorded performances of each piece.
- The Classical CD Buying Guide provides an overview of many of the considerations and factors associated with building a classical CD collection and addresses such topics as manufacturers and distributors, opera recommendations, and publications.
- The Recommended Classical CD files list composers and recommended recordings from the author’s own collection of discs.
- Composer Works & Data section is a catch all for various lists of data concerning classical composers. This includes date information (birthdays, death days, anniversaries).
- Reviews & Articles has more than 3000 reviews that cover books, CDs, DVDs, collections, and more.
- Books & Scores provides an overview of recommended books and scores, with links to facilitate on-line purchase through Amazon.com.
Additionally, there are mailing lists, newsgroups, and web links dealing with various aspects of classical music.
