Carolina Coastal Science
Carolina Coastal Science is an innovative, inquiry-based, science resource that utilizes the interactive technologies of the World Wide Web to explore science in coastal Carolina. Carolina Coastal Science has been created based on the goals stated in the National Science Education Standards. This website includes a Carolina Coastal Journal, which begins with an interactive map that narrows down to a particular place on the North Carolina coast and features information, questions for discussion, and a video clip.Students will also be challenged to find solutions to the Shell Island dilemma, which looks at issues of coastal erosion; inquiry images, which feature a series of photos accompanied by thought-provoking questions; and Relocating a Lighthouse, which raises a variety of questions related to the move of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and provides links to related websites for students to conduct further research.Teachers will also find an educator’s guide that is filled with suggestions for using these resources in the classroom.
