Between the Lions
This is the website that accompanies Between the Lions, the PBS television series that is designed to foster the literacy skills of its viewers, while playfully demonstrating the joys of reading. Just as each show aims to give kids four to seven years old some of the experiences they need in order to become successful readers, so do the activities found on this site.
Each week features a new story but they all can be found in the Stories section of the website. Each of these stories leads into an adventure of related games. The Games section contains ten games that target reading, writing, listening and speaking. Things to Print is a treasure chest of coloring pages, letter guides, games, bookmarks, alphabet cutouts, and even a clock for learning time. Kids can also view and listen to a variety of audio and video clips. The Parent & Teachers section contains recommended books, book lists, and literacy tips and resources. Kindergarten teachers will also find a free guide that models the show’s innovative whole-part-whole approach. Browse it online or download the printable, illustrated PDF version.
