Chandra X-Ray Observatory News
Chandra X-ray Observatory News is a great resource from NASA’s Mitchell Space Flight Center that will appeal both to teachers ready to engage their students in learning about space as well as the independent student interested in the mysteries of the universe. The front page for this website is devoted to news that is related to the travels and findings of the Chandra X-ray telescope, which was launched and deployed by Space Shuttle Columbia in July of 1999 and is designed to observe X-rays from high energy regions of the universe, such as the remnants of exploded stars. The menu items near the top of this page invite you to explore the many fact sheets about Chandra and related items, access NASA-TV via the Web, and explore archived Chandra images. The menu items along the left hand side of this website include many great tools. The Chandra Center will lead you to a photo album that includes much more than galactical images such as an interactive sky map and a guide to constellations; a field guide section that contains virtual tours of the Milky Way, starburst galaxies, white dwarfs, and more; and an educational materials portion with interactive games, printable activities, and tutorials. Other menu items on this side include an Understanding the Universe section, which guides learners from the Big Bang theory to black holes and a section with additional Chandra news.
