Hearth - Home Economics Archive

Before there was human ecology, or consumer and family studies, home economics “influenced the growth of women’s professions, the role of women in the community, public health and nutrition policy, and gender roles.” This collection of books, journals, and pamphlets have been preserved and digitized by the Mann Library at Cornell University so they will not be lost to history. These primary resources cover the time period between 1850 and 1950.
Students may explore short essays on a number of subjects dealing with home economics and find an extensive bibliography for each. They may also browse the complete bibliography of books by author and title or by publication year. Each selection can be viewed either by an image of the document, text, or PDF file. Images can be enlarged for easier reading. In addition, the collection can be searched using key words.
